When I was researching it, I found some interesting data - in Kent for example the number of kids diagnosed with ADHD increases 7% each year. What is it epidemic or something? I agree that there are some kids who have problems but not that many. Unfortunately some parents decide to give the drug to their kids to calm them down not to have to deal with it.
Another thing is that very respectable psychologists say that very often ADHD is diagnosed based on external symptoms and it is not the case with mental disorders (which ADHD is), they must show some internal changes.
There was an experiment done in Sweden or Norway (can't remember exactly). The point was to check if the kids would be more relaxed if taught outdoors or not. And guess what - the kids did do better when educated outdoors than indoors. The point of the experiment was that the kids are not hyperactive because of a disorder, they are hyperactive because we have moved too far away from nature, being outside in a park made these kids calmer and capable of concentrating. Interesting, isn't it?
Again, I am not saying that the disorder does not exist at all (it used to be called learning disorder before the term ADHD was coined), I am just saying that it is odd that the number increases pretty fast year by year.Anna Conwayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02907764662168914163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4329375399000677042.post-4843227453917034672014-01-03T06:05:24.176-08:002014-01-03T06:05:24.176-08:00Hello Anna and Debora! :)

However, I do think it's being abused as well and it's doing a disservice to kids who really do have a problem with hyperactivity and attention deficit. And I too have very mixed feelings about drugs - for example, ritalin actually speeds things up for the person who takes it. It just sounds horrible. I would love...Hi Debita! Thank you for your reply.

I would love to learn to swim so your help will be highly appreciated. :*

Re Ken Robinson I listened to his talk and even blogged about it - http://annaevo.blogspot.com/2012/05/do-schools-kill-creativity.html

The problem with the so-called ADHD is quite complex, I read a lot about that - I am even convinced that it does not exist as such, the poor kids are just being dragged to keep them calm. Sad reality!Anna Conwayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02907764662168914163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4329375399000677042.post-37148451125132259302014-01-02T16:05:32.930-08:002014-01-02T16:05:32.930-08:00Dear Annita,
Thank you for taking the time to part...Dear Annita,
Thank you for taking the time to participate in this challenge. Why it came at Christmas season, I don't know but I cherish whoever started this movement. It proved to be effective in terms of getting closer once again.
I'm so sorry you can't swim, especially because it's one way I found to wind down and turn off from noise, a way to listen to the sounds of silence. Swimming in warm water, snorkelling is that way I found to get in touch with nature and my inner soul. If we get to be together in real life I would like to hold your hand and maybe make you feel safe in the water. My dream is to swim with dolphins, but every time I tried they were swimming too far or they were not in the mood to swim with me. They are free and I love that.
And I never knew you can play the piano, that's so lovely.
Lastly, I'd like to refer to your topic of research. Have you watched Sir ken Robinson's talk on labelling kids with this kind of disorder? Pretty interesting! He claims that they are putting these kids to sleep because of medication, rather than helping them wake up. I'm not even close to an expert, but I have this feeling any kind of labelling on either physical or psychological disorders can be really dangerous.
Hard to recover from labels, I think.
Love you with all my heart
Debbie Debbiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10945305463134162033noreply@blogger.com
